Hi, Eri,

As an alternative to your very time intensive soup you may want to
look into Bob Church's Chicken Gravy. I make it using Pam Sessoms'
pressure cooker method and it takes maybe two hours start to finish.
See: http://www.trifl.org/pressuregravy.shtml Our current vet and
previous vets all believe in it and I have used it with ferrets when
they had insulinoma.

With four ferrets (Ker Avon, Podo, Kodo and Chin Soon) we got to the
point where prednisolone could no longer control their blood glucose
level or bring it up to normal. Even our original vet, who was very
conservative about doing insulinoma surgery, believed you do get to a
point where it's a life or death issue. Our current vet also believes
continuous low blood sugar can really harm a ferret. I understand why
you've decided not to do surgery and I wasn't going to raise the issue
again until your post today. It seems like you might be getting to
the point where you may have no other good options.

I do understand financial hardship. I was unemployed when we decided
Chin Soon needed surgery and underemployed when she had surgery in
April. I arranged a payment plan with the vet and paid the bill over
five months. It did make finances impossibly tight but the net result
is that I have a happy, healthy, bouncy ferret again. Since you have
a relationship with your vet that maybe something you will need to
consider with Kitty in the coming days and weeks. At least thing
about it...

All the best to you and to Kitty.

Cait and the terrific trio
(Ella, Zephyr and Chin Soon)
