Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Ferret hemorrhage after surgery
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi, I have a 7 year old female,Button who had a large epithelioma under
right front leg removed with laser surgery Friday. As soon as she got home
it started to bleed, pressure and ice wouldn't stop it,so back in the car for
the over 1 hour ride while I was holding pressure all the way.
She lost a lot of blood but no donor was available for transfusion. She is
getting SC lactated ringers 15-20cc BID.
Liqui-tinic 4x iron and vitamins only 0.3 ml once a day,she HATES it.
Amoxi 0.35 cc BID
Pred 1.25 mg BID for insulinoma
Also had Lurpon injection.
Buprenorphine 0.3 mg SC for pain prn.
Button had left adrenal and pancreas nodule surgery 2 years ago, now she
has heart murmer and overweight so not good candidate for that again.

My question is, she is very weak, breathing fast about 80 per
minute, eats, but seems to start to fall asleep while eating, tries to get uo to go
potty, but can't make it, gums still pink, but paws vary from warm to cool. How
long should she take to recover from blood loss, anything else I can do?
Thanks, Debbie
