Subject: [ferrethealth] second request help for lump on neck
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I had posted at the end of August about Rohan. He had a lump that grew to the size of marble on (his) left side of his neck. We had put him on Clindamycin (Clindidrops) .5cc without any real results. He had trouble eating as the saliva/watery babyfood would just drip out of his mouth. My vet went in and debulked the lump which was filled with blood and pus. He also did a dental cleaning in case it was an abcess from a tooth issue. The biopsy came back as a pyogenic granuloma. The lump remained about the size of pea until mid September when a second lump formed next to it over his throat. I put him back on the Clindamycin and my vet gave him a shot of Dex in both lumps on Sept 27.

This past Friday his neck swelled up to the size of a golf ball. It was lanced on Sunday a couple of times because he had great difficulty in breathing and swollowing. His relief in breathing was immediate. The blood that was released was old blood, dark in character and then just red blood. He ate a jar of babyfood a couple of hours following that lancing. The area that drained the most has not refilled.

Monday, he had trouble again with the excessive saliva and is having great difficultly eating again. He is very hungry but the food just drips back into the bowl. (His blood sugar was checked and found to be okay.) He saw my surgical vet on Monday as my regular vet is out of town til today. He refused to do anything, wouldn't even lance it. He changed his meds to Baytril as Clindamycin wasn't helping. He had no idea what to tell us. Ro is scheduled to see my regular vet today, the one who did the initial surgery. Ro, by the way, is five. This morning he was wanting out to play and he has a really good appetite but as I said, it just drips the food back into the bowl. Any comments, experiences or suggestions on how to help Ro would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Trish
