There are three books which wind up widely praised by a
large range of people including many veterinarians for
accuracy and clarity of writing.

If you are going to get just one text book the one people
recommend most often is
_Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents, Clinical Medicine and Surgery_
by
Quesenberry and Carpenter
(The first edition was done by Kathy Q with Liz HIllyer.)

also used a lot is
_Biology and Diseases of the Ferret, second edition)
edited and partly written by
Fox
and if things like very unusual diseases or zoonotics
are of interest it may be better than the other two for
your needs but most people do better with the other two.

There is a third option that is often highly recommended by
many people and is a very clear read, but I don't think that it
is available unless you find a second hand one and that is the
AHA's _Essentials of Ferrets, a Guide for Practioners_
by Purcell

Sources of such texts:
Amazon.com
(Seriously. Just put in
ferrets veterinary
as your search terms in the books section)
us.elsevierhealth.com

I've found quite a number of errors in some of the other textbook
options and have heard of errors from a range of people including
vets.

Highly recommended to go with your vet text is the
_Saunders Comprehensive Veterinary Dictionary_.
