Subject: [ferrethealth] Tips for expressing Pivot's anal glands wanted
To: fhl <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Pivot goes through times when she poofs a number of time a day.
Yesterday was one and I noticed at night that her area around the anus
was bulged out despite her having let loose twice in the previous 2
hours (This was NOT the anus itself but the surrounding tissue making
a bit of hillock without any discoloration or redness.) so I tried
gently massaging that raised tissue and she let loose with a lot more
(and I got to stay up till I no longer reeked rather than joining
Steve in bed and giving him dreams of Pivot being nervous). The
swelling went down and today she is no longer poofing. The swelling
was bilateral. There also is no sign of abscess, nor any sign of ill
health.

This is not a pleasant odor by any means but it is her normal musk
odor so we don't suspect infection, though I think we should speak
with her vet and perhaps have her checked on this score of the vet
wants to do that because it repeatedly happens weeks to months apart,
so she may just be a frequent poofer or she may have more going on.
So far it always resolves within a few days at most, and I may have
discovered last night how to resolve it faster.

Is it possible that at times she just produces a lot of musk so it may
be just a matter of having to help her "unload" it when she bulges?
