Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Tips for expressing Pivot's anal glands wanted

Hi Sukie,

Sounds like the beginning of an impaction and/or infection. There normally is no bulge unless impacted/infected.

Worse case scenario if the impaction is not expressed is that it will rupture and form fistulas that can leave open channels to bacteria and infection.

Warm compress can sometimes relieve a forming impaction - or I guess, as in your case, warm massage did.

I can't find the source at the moment but when I got my three scented girls I had done some preliminary research and it was recommended by someone on the continent that the anal glands be expressed manually - at minimum once a year to prevent impaction/infection.
