I can't find the source at the moment but when I got my three scented
girls I had done some preliminary research and it was recommended by someone on
the continent that the anal glands be expressed manually - at minimum once
a year to prevent impaction/infectionI

**Not sure who would have recommended this. Personally, the vast majority
of my ferrets have not been descented, rarely poof, and I have only ever
had one ferret develop an impaction and none get an infection. That ferret
had an impaction once in his life and it resolved quite nicely with a warm
water bath/soak which allowed me to express the glands without any
discomfort to the ferret. YMMV, of course.**
