Subject: [ferrethealth] Teeth cleaning?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Does anyone here,do their own scraping on you're ferrets teeth? I am
stunned that my 1yr old,has 1 tooth that looks bad?? He's on hard
food,a mixture of 3 different brands,and I finger brush them,so im
shocked!!!! I know of someone who did this successfully on his
ferret,so looking 4 tips... Also,and I still after 18yrs of being a
ferret mom, can't tell the difference between an enlargement of the
spleen,versus just fatness? One thing I know 4 sure,is silvermitts r
soooooo prone to both large spleens, and problem teeth, regardless of how
carefull u r,at least that's my experience.... Thanks! Deb

[Among our own ferrets over almost 30 years Steve
and I have noticed that, just as with humans, individual
ferrets vary widely in how prone they are to dental
plaque and caries. We've had some who had problems
all through life while others never had any at all.
That may be what you are encountering. Just saying
that like you we figure there are some genetic factors.
