Subject: [ferrethealth] Vomiting and diarrhoea
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi all, I've been a member for a while, but this is the first tie I've needed advice.

I have 5 ferrets, and one of them seems very sick. She's about 2 years old, we've had her since August, and this is the first time she's given cause for concern.

Basically she's normally very bouncy but tonight's play time, she went and hid and didn't come out to play with the others. I then found a small puddle of diarrhoea in a place that she doesn't normally do it. Pale and runny, not bloody, possibly mucusy.

She's very tired, just wants to snuggle in a bed or something comfy and sleep, I've made up some rehydration fluids for her (pint of pre-boiled water, teaspoon of salt, teaspoon of sugar) and added a little ferretvite to it. She was very interested and had about 7 to 9 ml from a syringe before then helping herself to it out of the cup I had it in.

She perked up a little (I've pinched the back of her neck and she is dehydrated, so I know I've got to get on top of that) and did a little exploring before coming back to her bed and flopping. he's done that a few times.

I've witnessed her be sick once, and I don't think she bought back everything she drank. I'll be giving her more fluids every hour on the hour.

I have an appointment for her at my vet tomorrow (I'm in the UK, just thought I should add that) but need to make sure I'm doing everything I can for now.

Thanks

Bev x
