You don't mention whether the vet re-inflated the lung or did it resolve on its own??
A collapsed lung (pneumothorax) is considered an emergency and generally requires treatment such as thoracocentesis, which is removal of air from the chest cavity with a needle and syringe, or the insertion of a chest tube. In humans it can result from pneumonia, lung disease as well as trauma to the chest. I would assume it may be similar for ferrets.
I would be happy to send you the paper by Wyer & Hess (2005) Clinical Technique: Ferret Thoracocentesis for your vet if you write me privately if the lung is still collapsed. Abstract from the paper:
Abstract
Respiratory distress due to pneumothorax and/or pleural effusion is an emergency situa-
tion that must be quickly resolved. Thoracocentesis can be an invaluable lifesaving tech-
nique in these patients. This article describes how to perform thoracocentesis in ferrets for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes, with an emphasis on the unique thoracic anatomical differences between ferrets and other domestic species and on potential complications of thoracocentesis.
