Have the symptoms subsided at all with the steroid and Benadryl?
How long has it been since you moved and has Bruce ever moved before? When you first moved in was he curious and checking everything out or was he always more interested in returning to the cage? I'm wondering if it might be stress induced and he feels most secure in the cage. Also, he can probably still smell the dogs even though the carpets were cleaned. Has he been around dogs before without fear or allergy?
It's possible he's sensitive to chemicals in the carpet cleaner but hard to say without knowing what they used. I've had ChemDry come in a couple times in the last few years because it's *supposed* to be safe but I only allow pre-treatment sanitizer in the accident corners and no stain protection after, so far no issues.
Also, the Benadryl might contribute to dizziness/drowsiness, maybe you can try cutting back the Benadryl dosage. If the symptoms persist I would be inclined to do an extra carpet cleaning with just steam and use fans and open windows to dry it quickly.
