I agree with Mary here, my first thought is about the carpet cleaning.
Perhaps it is the product used which makes discomfort to your boy.

Do you have a secure place in your home without carpet and where you can put your ferrets in.

The easy way to see if it is that the problem is to remove your ferrets from the carpet place. Or if you have friends or family close and where you can put them here for a few days and see if the symptoms decrease.
