Hi, Lance,
I want to reiterate what Sukie said. You didn't say how old your
"older" ferret really is. Some years back we adopted two older
ferrets who we thought would be with us for a relatively short time.
They were closing in on seven when they came to us. With excellent
vet care we had them for two and a half and three years respectively.
I have one approaching eight now. She's doing brilliantly at the
moment but if she seemed to be going downhill I'd take her to the vet.
I know from experience that some conditions at eight can't be treated
but many can be.
Ferrets can seem to go downhill very quickly, especially older ones.
Sometimes all it takes is the right diagnosis and medication to turn
that around. They also can recover very quickly. If Wullie hasn't
been to the vet please do take him. If he has then please share
what's wrong. Somebody here may have a brilliant idea to pass on to
your vet. You never know.
All the best,
Caity and the terrific trio
Ella, Zephyr and Chin Soon (all seniors)
