Subject: [ferrethealth] is this food safe?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have just managed to find a natural food for my cats and the ferrets have had it for the past two weeks as well, all animals seem to like it and over the last two weeks everyones coat has become soft and shiny, the two ferrets; one who has been on deslorin for almost 3 years as well as the suprelorin injection since april, and the other one that has been on the suprelorin injection since may (both had hair loss and the 2nd ferrte has had hair on his tail just over the last week)can anyone please pass comment on if anything sticks out as being unsafe for ferrets, many thanks

[Moderator's Note:

MANY THANKS for observing the FHL
rule that in relation to foods we are NOT
here to discuss preferences but to stick
to the health aspects. You managed that
by listing ingredients instead of naming
names, which was very smart.

The one thing that I notice is that there
are currents and in some of the studies on
kidney failure from raisins and grapes there
has also been at least one implicating
currents. BTW, no one knows why those are
so dangerous for ferrets, dogs and cats.
Recent studies have looked for or at mycotoxins
(fungus created poisons), pesticides, herbicides,
etc. One preliminary recent study indicated that
the researcher wanted to see if these fruits help
raise Vitamin D levels too high for members of
carnivora, and another query that was a
human health one about vinegars was looking
at if some of these species of fruit pull up lead
or other heavy minerals easily in certain soils.
That preliminary work on that apparently does not
show levels most people would find troublesome
IF my recollection is accurate of a write-up I think
I encountered in Science News, but they are not looking
at members of Carnivora. Ah, here:
<http://www.sciencenews.org/index/generic/activity/view/id/49393/title/Vinegar_Label_lead-tainting_data>
I think -- but check me on this -- that specific grape
types may be used for the ones tested. It says the
original report is in here:
http://www.environmentalhealthnews.org/
specifically
http://www.environmentalhealthnews.org/ehs/news/lead-in-vinegar

The levels of currents may be low enough to not be
a consideration in this food, but I honestly do not
know.]
