Forget the toes, use the tail tip. It's an easy bleed and painless.

My version....

FIRST thing -- put something good to eat in a bowl (I use soup but Ferretone is fine too, whatever keeps them occupied), put ferret in front of bowl, put the test strip in the monitor, etc.

1. swab the tail tip with alcohol
2. gently pump (ie; squeeze) the tail tip (to get blood flowing)
3. Use the lancet to draw a blood sample
4. touch the sample to the strip

Skip the vaseline, it isn't needed and can interfere with test results.

If the ferret has a lot of hair at the tail tip you may want to trim or shave it to make things easier, though hairy tails aren't difficult to do once you get the hang of it.

With this method mine never even notice when I'm testing and I always get a good sample.
