Subject: [ferrethealth] dexamethasone strength for liquid
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Okay I have a 3 year old male ferret with insulinoma. We are continually having to increase his prednisolone and thought the dexamethasone might be a better option. He is currently on .4ml twice a day
[Prednisolone comes in multiple concentrations. How many mg/ml?]
and I do realize he can be increased by quite a bit on the prednisolone. My question is my vet only carries the liquid form and needs to know the strength for Boo-Boo. He also weights 2.4 lbs if this helps. Need to know information asap, please
julie
[_Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents_ lists
0.5 -2.0 mg/kg SC, IM, IV
_Essentials of Ferrets_ lists the same dose range but also adds PO.
Why change when Pred is usually more effective for this use?
Did you instead mean adding diazoxide? If so,
10-20 mg/kg PO q 12h according to the first text, while the second
lists 5-30 mg/kg PO q 12h
