One other med that might help--when my ferret Ronan was suffering from severe gas caused by clostridium overbloom, my vet had us give him Gas-X for infants, active ingredient simethicone. I don't remember the exact dosage, but I'm sure your vet can look that up. It definitely gave him some relief.
