Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with Lump inside upper abdomen (intestine area) opted for surgery
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi there,

Found a lump in Mitzie's upper abdomen.

took her to vets on wed. vet suggested ultra-sound.

Had another appointment yesterday and vet said lump had got a little bit bigger and basically said the options are:

to do a ultra sound which won't tell us what it is,

put her on steroids in case it is lymphoma, but
we won't know for sure

or explorative surgery where we will hopefully
find out what is going on.

We opted for surgery and vet is ringing with estimate cost for surgery today and will get her booked in tommorow or friday I hope.

Vet also said that it feels a hard solid lump so cant be a hairball and unlikely impaction. She expects its in her intestine area so the only thing it could be is lymphoma or a problem with the intestine in which case they may be able to remove a small piece and hopefully she will be fine after that.

Mitz is still her usual self seems to be sleeping deeper but so are the other two so I think thats just due to the weather.

If it is lymphoma-its not affecting her at all. shes not in pain and her quality of life isn't compromised so she will probably be put on steroids but at the end of the day that only prolongs her life..

my question is what could it be other then juvenile lymphoma?

Mitz is 2 and a half
