Subject: [ferrethealth] Loss of hair on tail and red mark with black raise dot on stomach
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello All! Im new to this - hope all is well with all and surprised at the amount of information available to me now - i must say I have had some bad experiences with the vet. My ferret Mojack is about 4 yrs old, i recently moved to CA from NY and drove the entire way with him (couldnt fly him in, no airlines would take him and they are illegal in CA). By the end of the trip i noticed he was losing hair on his tail and to the point the tip is almost bald. I looked on line at the AFA for a certified vet for him, took him to the appt - $1,000.00 later and 3 tests, i basically received a bunch of vague answers on causes. I just lost a verret 6 months ago to the adrenal desease and urinary blockages and trying to prevent the same for Mojack. The vet gave me the same suggestions you have all listed about, but basically said there was no real way to determine if he had an adrenal issue and they could do a test, but it was very expensive (another $700.00) and would have low probabil
ity of telling me as the vet said it may be in the early stages and hard to determine. It has been 3 weeks since then, all of the blood work came back negative and his sugar levels seem fine. Today i noticed a small red circle with a black dot on the inside - his hair still hasnt grown back on his tail - im currently searching for another vet, but disappointed as the last 3 i have been to (other 2 in NY) have not seemed all that knowledgable and seem uncertain when they are delivering prognosis. Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated. By reading the above I will definitely get Veretone and make some duck soup - any ideas or help would be GREATLY appreciated. Im new to this and will try uploading pics now. Thanks!!!
