When we have one who has a known problem digesting food then we remove food at midnight the night before and fluids at 5 or 6 a.m. but that is a rare problem.

Given when our vet usually does surgery and when drop off is most of our ferrets can have food and fluids right up to leaving for the hospital (which is an hour away) because they will have their surgeries usually in another 3 to 5 hours.

Plan on 4 to 6 hours, but call and ask for a call back when your vet can manage it to discuss what timing your vet wants.

Make sure the vet will be using gas rather than injected anesthetic.
