Subject: [ferrethealth] Hills Z/D - constipation?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I've just had to hospitalize my female. She had vomited once yesterday, and this morning had two bouts of trying to vomit. The x-rays showed her intestines are packed with gas and food. There appears to be no foreign object. Thing is, she has been pooping and gets pumpkin soup daily to help with her runny poos and gets laxatone every couple of days. It's as though the intestines are not moving the food out. Previous x-rays have shown gas and some thickening of the intestines. The vet has done gram stains, looked at the slides with the magnification discussed in a previous post (I can't remember what it is but I made a point of asking after that discussion), and there's been a couple of cultures done. She has been treated for Clostridium in the past, and with the recent bout of very runny poop there was a large amount of yeast present. Vet had tried Nystatin for the yeast but after a few days Izzy vomited from that. Or maybe that was the beginning of the problem and we thought
it was the Nystatin (I'll ask the vet tomorrow about that). She had a real bad couple of days after eating canned BG chicken so a chicken intolerance was suspected. I started shifting her from TF Turkey to Hills Z/D on Nov 20, but I've been doing that gradually and we are not even at a 50/50 mix yet. Her last runny poop was Nov 25. Is it possible for the Z/D to have something to do with this constipation? As soon as the vet thinks she is ready we will be going ahead with the biopsy, until then any ideas as to what could be going on.
