I am sorry to hear you have lost your ferret.
The edema, swelling can be caused by the
inability to urinate due to renal failure or from heart issues.
When a ferret gets "septic" the symptoms I have
seen most often are: lack of appetite, they
shiver a lot ( due to pain) , and often the eyes
will be slits ( another indication of pain)
. Sepsis is a horrid way to go, I lost a human
relative this way , and they were managed on IV painkillers at the end.
We have had several kids that developed cancer of
the kidneys, they got periodontal disease and
mouth sores, that is when we started to run blood
levels and got the renal failure diagnosed.
I send prayers for you for your loss, and
prayers to those facing a loss. It is never an
easy thing-- especially at this time of year!
