Subject: [ferrethealth] Sneezing, snotty nose ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi, I need some advice. My Freddie (2yrs old) has been sneezing and has had a snotty nose for about 2 days now (that I have noticed). Should I just keep an eye on him for him to get any worse or is there something that he could have that needs to be seen by his Dr. before it gets any worse?? No one in the household 4 legged or 2 legged has had any colds, flus, or anything else wrong with them. Will he need an anti-biotic to get rid of this? He acts totally fine except for the snottiness. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

[Moderator's Note:

If you search the easily used separate FHL Archives
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/
you will find that ferrets do not get colds, but they
do catch influenza types, and bacterial sinus infections
from people -- and people who have some resistance
do not always know when they have such infections.

Antibiotics --when used right -- help with bacterial
infections but not viral ones.

Ferrets can have serious respiratory infections such as
pneumonia without showing obvious signs until they
already are at extreme risk.

There can be other causes of those symptoms, of course,
for example, early Canine Distemper, or even allergies.]
