That sounds like it could be a keratosis. I've never heard
of anything being terribly useful for them that I can recall
but check the easily used FHL Archives in case I am wrong:

Why keratoses form is unknown. Usually the ferret has
compromised health, and some studies in other species
indicate that some individuals have a genetic tendency to
form them. They are not contagious.
