Subject: [ferrethealth] swollen leg
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

lily's leg has become even more swollen to the point of her not
having no movment or not being able to put any weight on it of couse
we have been to the vet a few times and alot of money late we still
aren't sure what it is we thought it was an abcess but the
antibiotics didn;t help and it has grown alot since, it;s weird the
fist time we sent fluid from it away there was no puss in it but then
the second time there was, on tue when we were last at the vet she
drained in again ( 15 ml) and it was clear she still sent it away
just to make sure. what she tinks it might is hard to explain and i
forgot the name but it's something humans get too older people
especially it's just fluid on the joint the keeps filling and
filling, she's confered with thte only other vet in the area who know
anything about ferret and lily has seen her also, and what they are
thinking is that the solution is to amputate the leg! that is if the
fluid come back as not being infected and the new antibiotic dosen't
change it any ( tho fingers crossed in the 2 1/2 day that she's been
on this new on it has gotten softer) i do have the option of doing a
biopsee( spelling) to verifiy that it is what they think but it is
expensive and at her age they don't want to put her under twice of
course before we make any decisions we ( the vet and i) both want to
do some reasearch she's nver amputated a ferrets leg before anyone
know any 3 legged ferrets or dealt with anything like this
i should add that lily is not in any pain and still get around well
still seams to have good quakity of life and the vet believes she
will keep it even with just 3 legs she does have some discomfort of
the swelling but it doesn;t seem too bad
