I took Baby in a 6.5 yr old MF female in because she had lost 200
grams
(800 to 600) in a few weeks and she had red infected gums. Opposite
her
canines she had an ulcer in her cheeks. She was dehydrated and had
been
having diarhea. She was still active but not playful. I gave her 60
cc
of lactated ringers (w/o glucose 15 hours before her appointment).

We started her on Clavamox which the gums and the ulcers have
responded
well to. The ulcers were completely closed after only three days and
the redness is all but gone after 6 days. She was put on Flagyl 2X a
day for the diarrhea and after 2 days that is completely gone,
continuing the meds.

We did a blood panel but it took 3 days to get back the results due
to
the vets schedule. After looking at the blood work the vet told me to
start her on Pepcid once a day 1-2 mg. He thinks she has Kidney
disease. It clearly says on the bottle not to take if you think you
have Kidny disease so I haven't given it to her and besides that the
diarrhea is gone. What would be the purpose? I was to continue giving
her 60 cc subQ of lactated ringers with Glucose once a day which I
have
done. I also have her on Carnivore care 3-5 times a day depending on
her and my schedule. She eats 36-48 cc per meal.

Her are her blood results:

ALK. PHOSPHATASE 69
ALT (SGPT) 114
AST (SGOT) 141 (high)
CK 877 (high)
ALBUMIN 1.9 (low)
TOTAL PROTEIN 5.4
GLOBULIN 3.5 (high)
TOTAL BILIRUBIN 1.2 9high)
BUN 169 (high)
CREATININE 1.8 (high)
CHOLESTEROL 239
GLUCOSE 23 (low)
CALCIUM 7.6

RESULTS VERIFIED BY REPEAT ANALYSIS

PHOSPHORUS 12.7 (high)
POTASSIUM 4.8
SODIUM 4.8
A/G RATIO 0.5

So, why would you put a ferret on Pepcid that you think has Kidney
failure/disease? Do these results indicate that?

SHe has gained about 60 grams in the last 7 days. She still looks
like
crap. What else can I do? She is still very dehydrated every night
when
I give her the subQ fluids. Not very active yet. Just kind of tottles
around. Was I way wrong in not giving her the Pecid? What are some
protocals for Kidney disease? I looked in the archives but I didn't
see
much. Could the blood work be all off just because she was so sick
and
she doesn't have Kidney diesease or are these results conclusive?

thanks for any input you may have, Mary Jo
