Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Question-Weak back legs.
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Time for a visit with a ferret knowledgeable vet!

Although the most common cause is probably insulinoma,
hind end weakness is a very general symptom which can
happen with anything that makes a ferret sick enough

You mention difficulty going to the bathroom, and you' mention
the color of the feces but not if there is urine being produced.
Both urinary blockage and fecel blockage are emergencies
that no one should wait with. You also mention lethargy. Three
common causes of lethargy are intestinal blockage, heart
disease, and insulinoma. If the stool is extremely dark green
then that, like tarry black stool can indicate ulcertation, another
possible cause of some of the symptoms you describe.

This ferret needs a vet appointment without delay to make
sure that none of the most serious things are happening.

Two Vet info on hind end weakness and I know
there are more which others can recommend:

ferret age unknown and up until 2 days ago he seemed perfectly healthy. Then last
evening he appeared lethargic and unable to walk normally it was as if his hind legs were
not holding him up. I was able to give him some ferretone and he drank a little water and
ate some duck soup and seemed to just want to sleep. He woke up and walked normally
to the litter box and went. His stool was very dark green and then he went again about a
half hour or so later and that one was really all water. Today he still seemed weak in the
legs, lethargic, and uninterested in eating anything. He seemed to try to go to the
bathroom but had no luck. I have no idea what the problem is. Any thoughts.
