Subject: [ferrethealth] Melatonin questions
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hello,
I have seven ferrets that I am currently treating with melatonin. Of
the seven, two have had bilateral surgery, one has had unilateral
surgery. The remaining four had adrenal symptoms; hair loss and
aggression. I began treating them all with melatonin at the beginning
of November 2008. All seven ferrets have responded, six extremely
well with their tail and bare spots now completely furred. The one
hold out was a bilateral surgery, he's just now after two months
beginning to show some hair regrowth.
My questions are:
Now that six of seven have shown such great results, do I still need
to consider surgery for those that haven't had it?
What signs should I look for to indicate that they'd require surgery?
Would Lupron in addition to the melatonin in the one ferret who is
just now showing regrowth be a good idea?
Leslie
