Subject: [ferrethealth] Turkey for gravy
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
If I were to make turkey gravy of a whole turkey, would it be OK to use
the commonly sold ones that have turkey broth injected in them? They all
have "up to 7% broth" and the sodium content is 230 to320 mg per 1/2
cup of turkey. These can be found at 67 cents a pound. But a natural
turkey without the broth is $1.67 a pound or more.
Sometimes I make turkey gravy the same as chicken gravy but boneless by
using ground turkey rolls. The cheaper the better as it has more dark
meat which has more fat in the muscles. I will add some extra egg shells
or a calcium tablet and some giblets if I can find them. I just cook the
meat on low in a crock pot, then add the rest and put it in the blender.
