Something that looks like string in his feces could be compressed hair. I have seen this several times, and when we do, we usually give Ferretlax for a few days to prevent any build up. It usually happens around shedding season. If he does have a blockage at this point, it's probably too big to be helped by Ferretlax, but it can't hurt to try it for a few days. If you and your vet really believe it's a blockage, then it might be best to do whatever you can to get him strong for surgery in the next couple of days, including hand-feeding of soup and ferretvite. Prior to surgery he should be put on some sort of nutritional I V to get him fully hydrated and as strong as possible. I haven't personally had any ferrets go thru surgery for a blockage, but I have read several posts by others who report a relatively quick return to health once the blockage is removed.
