Subject: [ferrethealth] How quickly is high calorie/ carbohydrate paste absorbed into bloodstream?
To: "FHL" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I just saw my Leo wobble, he ran strangely, in a stiff sort of way, he even
fell over onto his side. First thing I thought I measure his blood glucose.
Got my Freestyle Mini out, cleaned his paw with a vinegar/ water mix, and
cut a nail just to the quick when the paw was dry. He had some high energy/
high carbohydrate paste on his tummy while I did this. The first reading
was 28 mg/dl. To make sure it wasn't a false reading, I did it again,
another nail. This time it was 38 mg/dl. One way or another I think I can
assume he has insulinoma but I was wondering whether the first reading was
inaccurate or could the BG have gone up from the paste within a few (approx.
2-3) minutes?

Leo didn't show signs of insulinoma before, the only strange thing he did
was lie down sometimes during run and play but he hasn't been showing any
tell tale signs of insulinoma.
