Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Bump on head and violent sneezing fits
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Our ferret Sandman had similar, horrible sneezing fits and it turned out to be cryptococcus (most likely from digging in the ground). The fungal spores got really bad and his Titers were through the roof (1600). It eventually blocked his nostrils completely, then spilled out onto his entire nose like a big scab. Check your ferret's nostrils to see if there appears to be any swelling inside.
Sandman went on fluconazole, which brought the titers down to 80 in just a few months and cleared up his nose enough for him to breathe through his nostrils again (and it stopped the sneezing fits).
On the head "bump"...
We have another ferret, Oliver, who regularly gets swollen ears and a small "bump" on his head, which was determined to be some form of allergy. He is on a very small (.05ml) twice-daily dose of pred which seems to keep it from flaring up.
Hope this helps. Apologies for the delay on this reply, but I haven't been in this mailbox for awhile.
Good luck ...
Michael (not a vet)
