I would first look to any kinds of poisons that could be gotten a
hold of in the home.
Many rodenticides and human medicines can produce symptoms of
dehydration and if they were coated meds and the ferret was
licking/mouthing them, this could irritate the tissues.
However, the hemoraging is also indicative of a flea-borne pneumonic
disease.
I am not all together sure if ferrets would present the same
symptoms, and cannot find specifics.
