Subject: [ferrethealth] Growth inside ear canal
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello, I am writing about my 6yo ferret Bella. She has a large growth
in her ear which appears to be obstructing the wax, causing the ear to
sometimes smell and have blackish wax build-up outside. When I try to
clean the wax off, the lump bleeds and appears to hurt her, although
she has always hated having her ears cleaned. It does not appear to
bother her at other times and does not put her balance off. It has been
there for around 4 months and has not grown in size for around 2
months. It looks slightly redder than her ear, but essentially the same
texture. What could it be? She is currently being treated for
insulinoma with 0.5mg prenisolone twice daily and has been well-
controlled for 3 months or so. I originally thought the lump was
causing her to fall over, but the vet checked the lump out (it was
smaller at that stage) and was not worried, and the falling over ended
up being insulinoma. Do you think the lump should be removed? I chose
not to have surgery for her insulinoma and I would not put her under
anaesthetic for such a small thing. I wonder if it might be another
type of tumour, given her little body already has pancreatic tumours.
Thanks for any advice.
