If this helps any, here is the ad from the hill's site:

For the Nutritional Management of Pets Recovering From Serious Illness, Acc=
idents and Surgery
Both dogs and cats can undergo significant changes when faced with a seriou=
s illness, injury or surgery. They may have trouble maintaining natural def=
enses and sparing lean body mass (in other words, they may be losing body w=
eight from muscle or organ tissue), which can affect recovery. Prescription=
Diet=AE a/d=AE Canine/Feline pet food has been specifically formulated by =
veterinarians to be fed to dogs or cats in these situations. These conditio=
ns can be helped by adding the key nutrients and digestible energy found in=
Prescription Diet=AE a/d=AE. The nutritional formulation of Prescription D=
iet=AE a/d=AE may also be useful for pets with a variety of conditions.

here is the link to thier site for the a/d: http://www.hillspet.com/hillsp=

My ferrets love the canned a/d taste and since it is mostly fat and protien=
, it is very good for them anyway. Sorry if the info does not help much, b=
ut it has helped to put some weight on my little guy and gal.=20

Can anyone tell me what is so special about Hill's A/D canned food?
Why do you need a prescription?

What does A/D stand for?

I was recently told by someone to use the A/D mixed with water or
Pedialyte to help put weight on a ferret while we figure out what is
causing the weight loss.

Thanks,
Liz
