Subject: [ferrethealth] Rocky & cardiomyopathy update
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello all,

Rocky had a very, very bad night. The fact that he survived amazed me
and his doctor. He was panting rather badly and as much as I loath
our local ER vets, I was going to take him there, if just for a mercy
shot. When I wrapped him in a towel and flipped him onto his left
side, the labored breathing stopped, I swear he actually sighed with
relief. FIfteen minutes later he opened his eyes and went to his food
bowl to eat. The rest of the night was uneventful, he did get up
twice more to eat and go potty by himself.

This morning we went back to his vet who listened to his heart and
said it sounded 'great'. She gave him a shot of Lasix, penicillan and
called in scripts for Digoxin and Lasix on top of the enalapril. Then
asked if I had checked his blood sugar lately. I had tried, but when
I got a test strip error, I didn't want to stress him again. She
tested him and his reading was a 43! She gave him some dextrose water
and told me the dosage of Pediapred that I have at home to give him.
When I say it was the difference between night & day you can believe
it. My once calm, cool and collected fuzzy was up and walking around
with barely a wobble to him. At home tonight he's chomping on the
sick cage bars and trying to climb out, something he's never done
before.

I'm kicking myself for not getting the blood sugar done earlier this
week. Coulda, woulda, shoulda and Rocky probably could of avoided
much discomfort.

Sukie answered me right away and I am always forever grateful for her
knowledge, caring and experience. You are a rock Sukie, thank you
again :-)

Leslie
