Loss of the use of the back legs can be many things, including a spinal
injury. I recently had a little boy who had some sort of screaming
seizure (not insulinoma) ONE time, and totally lost the use of his back
legs. I am convinced that he had a stroke. The best way to keep him
comfortable, assuming there is no pain, is to put him in a smallish,
single-level cage. It needs to be large enough that he can get out of
his own filth. I had a smaller Martin's playpen made for me several
years ago. It gives the ferret ample space to move around, but there
is no climbing. You need to keep him cleaned up as much as you can.
Put rugs or blankets on the floor for him to navigate.

In the event it's not permanent, try some leg exercises daily, as well
as soakings in warm water, along with exercise.

As to the cranberry, I use a product called Berry Balance, made by
Solid Gold. I have an unreleasable female opossum and females are VERY
prone to UTIs in captivity. I am giving it to her in an effort to
prevent this. So far, so good, and she is nearing a year old now. It
is a powder that I sprinkle over her food. You give it twice daily for
a month, then go to three days a week, once a day, after that. Because
Asia only weighs 5-6 lbs., I give her 1/2 the recommended dosage (1/8t)
for animals up to 15 lbs. It wasn't terribly expensive and I've barely
put a dent in it after many months.

Before finding the powder, I bought PURE cranberry juice from a health
food store (nasty tasting stuff LOL). I was pouring about 1/4 teaspoon
over her food with every meal. The amount was just a wild guess.
Because she also eats fruits, the bitter taste was masked.
