Well, you can't generalize between mammalian Orders. There
are a number of things which are safe for at least some members
of one Order which will kill members of another. Just look at
the number of over the counter human meds that will kill ferrets,
or the way that too many raisins will cause acute kidney failure
in ferrets, cats, and dogs.
Still, there have been people who have given cranberry or
blueberry to ferrets without bad results. Both contain the
tannin that prevents bacteria from being about to stick to the
walls of the bladder. Don't over-do it, though, and know that
it is not a substitute for medical care, also if an infection moves
up higher in the urinary tract then the ferret is still in trouble.
Now, was the urine pH checked and was there any check for
crystals.
Was that spongy area on the back imaged with x-ray or with
ultrasound? Where on the back is it? How large is it?
