Subject: [ferrethealth] peanut butter - salmonella
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
As some of you are probably aware, there is a recall of products
containing peanut butter, as it's been linked to a salmonella outbreak.
Tonight on the local news (Northern Virginia) a dietician was
interviewed, she felt jars of peanut butter were safe but other
products such as crackers she would avoid. There is no mention of pet
products so far in the recall. I don't know if one should worry or not
about giving peanut butter bandits and other treats to their kids, but
I wanted to put it out here so everyone would be aware of the
situation.

Later note from Tracy:
On the national news, Dr Nancy Snyderman said she would toss anything
that wasn't a jar of peanut butter. Still no mention of pet treats.
It's up to you to make the decision.

[Moderator's Note:
There is one contaminated facility found. It is in Georgia
and makes peanut butter and peanut paste for use in
institutions (not home peanut butter jars) and in the
making elsewhere of other items that contain peanuts.
There IS a general mention of the products being sent
to a North Carolina facility which makes pet treats in
