Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Any Risks in giving Lupron to non-adrenal ferret?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I currently have 11 ferrets on lupron. Two were started on it at
around 1 year of age as a hopeful preventative. They are given the 4
month depot, at a dosage of 500 mcg's, every 3 to 4 months, year
round. I have seen no adverse effects. In fact, I've seen what I
believe are benefits. To date, near 2 years later, I've seen no signs
of adrenal disease in these 2, neither has ever even had a case of
what we like to call "seasonal rat tail" (which I've come to believe
is actually an early sign of adrenal disease). Of the 25 ferrets I've
had to date these are the first two that by the age of 3 years have
shown no signs of adrenal disease. I also have 3 other younger one's
that I've just started on lupron as a hopeful preventative as well.
I'm seeing good things, with no adverse effects, and I am hopeful!

As for my others, only one was confirmed adrenal (via surgery, near 6
years ago....her left gland was removed). The rest were all diagnosed
based on symptoms and started on lupron. I have seen significant
benefits in all and no adverse effects in any.
