Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Does insulinoma hurt?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
It is hard to tell sometimes what is going in a ferrets mind. But from
experience of having 2 ferrets that have been diagnosed with
insulinoma. One we did not catch it in time and he passed on in 2007.
One is still alive and doing quite well on prednisolone 0.1 twice per
day. She also is on gastricalm to keep her from stomach from being
upset from the prednisolne. In addition to the she also is taking 0.2
proglycem twice a day. I always feed her some duksoup or softened
Marshalls ferret food with the 1/2 tablet of gastricalm between the
medications, with the prednislone being after the food. She has been
doing so good with her new treatment plan which began in October 2008.
You may want to ask your vet about that to see if it would work for
Mathilda. If she chatters her teeth when you are trying to feed her,
she is in pain and will not eat as her stomach hurts. Sabrina was
doing that and it was resolved with carafe. If your vet needs to talk
to my vet about treatment, let me know I will be more than happy to
give you my vets information for them to call.
Norbert, owened by Sabrina, Emma, Eve and Dakotah
[Reminder: without knowing the mg amounts in
the pills, and the mg amounts in each ml of of
liquid medication since concentrations vary.
Carafate needs to be given SEPARATELY by at least 10
minutes before food, and preferably longer than that
before meds. As with any treatment medication
counterindications also have to be taken into account
