Subject: [ferrethealth] Squamous cell carcinoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a question that I'm sure I know the answer to, but have to ask
anyway. My 4 yr old girl Zoe was diagnoised from a biopsy, with
squamous cell carcinoma in her mouth along her gum line. Our vet and
another vet I trust more, both said there is really no cure for her
except to have the soft tissue tummor removed along with part of her
lower jaw, and even then it can spread to her lymph nodes, which it
may have already, we don't know, and it can spread to the lungs. I
won't do that to her, so no surgery for her. I have her on 1cc of
prednisolone twice a day, which I'm told may or may not help her. But
my local vet has given me meloxicam. But I've been told by more than
one person, that you can't be on meloxicam long term, and you can't
mix pred and meloxicam. When I look in Zoe's mouth, it's red, tarter
on her teeth and a big angry green like spot along her gumline. I was
able to get alittle of the green stuff out with a qtip, but it really
hurts her. Soooo, my question is....can I use anything like oragel to
help numb the area? I don't think she's eating any kibble anymoe, so
I'm feeding her soup often during the day, which of course makes the
tarter on her teeth worse.
Has anyone had any experience with this, or know if there's something
I can use that's topical?
Thanks,
Melanie*
