Subject: [ferrethealth] need advice for adrenal male
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello,

I am brand new to this group, although I am not new to ferrets at all.
I am hoping to get some help for my ferret. I have a 7.5 year old male
ferret that has adrenal disease. He currently gets a Melatonin implant
every 3 months and a Lupron injection every month. But he is getting
to the point where he is having to strain while urinating. I have
decided not to have surgury done due to his age and because I just
don't have good luck with old ferrets going in for surgery. When he
started straining to urinate my vet put him on Flutamide and I tried
that for awhile and it didn't seem to help. Now I have switched him to
Propecia and it isn't helping either. I don't know if I should
increase his propecia dosage or if he can get a combo of both Propecia
and Flutamide or if there is something else anyone can recommend that
would possibly work better. Oh and he also gets the herb Saw Palmetto
every night with his duck soup. But he still gets around well and
plays so I know its not "his time" yet. I hope someone has some advice
for me. Thanks.

Kimberly
