It might be. There are a number of nutrients which are in
higher amounts in other tissues than meat, and no matter
which meat a person talks about there are some nutrients
which are simply in insufficient amounts in meats (muscle).
In some nations the organs and skin are also often referred
to as "meat" so it is important to get clarifications.

Another thing to remember is that not everyone in other nations
where people often talk about longer lived ferrets actually has
longer lived ferrets, and some people have weird ideas about
what is a normal lifespan.

I know of people in pretty much any country you can name who
report the same sorts of problems with the fancy ferrets that
we hear of in the U.S., and just like those of us who have been
around a long time here (pretty much 27 or 28 years for Steve
and me) in the ferret world there are some private people who
have somewhat long lived lines but also ones with short lived
lines. In both Britain and the U.S. I've actually communicated
with a few people whose ferrets were EXPECTED to live only
about 2 years and the people actually thought that was normal.
Those households had very inbred ferrets with no veterinary
care and substandard diets.

When we first began with ferrets there were some people with
non-fancy ferrets here in the U.S, who bred carefully and their
ferrets normally lived to about 8 to 10 years of age. There were
others who assumed that the much shorter life spans they were
getting were normal.

Very long lived ones (with the age proven by documents because
some individuals found their recollections were wrong and a
few even were accidently combining the ages of two ferrets
in their minds) beyond 10 years seemed to be more unusual
individuals who happened sporadically back when I followed that.
(There also were a few reports for different reasons such as one
family which regularly travelled between nations which used the
same documentation for their ferrets for about a quarter century
to avoid the difficulty of getting new documents, and a few
instances of people having their legs pulled.) Of course, it has
been at least 10 to 15 years since i had the free time to try to
follow-up on age reports, so this is OLD.

Just know, that no matter what the nation is, if you ask about ages
from a number of people who are there you will get results that
vary all over the place. At least that has consistently been what I
have encountered, and some of those people will have unusual
ages to report and will consider those ages perfectly normal.
