Another good source of Taurine for ferrets is from insects! Yes, the
larval stage of insects is reported to be high in taurine! Super worms
(Zophobas Morio) are readily eaten by many ferrets - either live, or
prekilled (no not stomped - they are available canned).

Wax worms, butter worms as well as crickets are enjoyed by ferrets.

Huxtable notes: http://www.serve.com/BatonRouge/taurine_chmr.htm
(this page goes into great detail and breakdowns of Taurine from
various sources.) They show Taurine contents in foods: and that
Insects are noted as being high in Taurine . Also that Dark meat of
chicken is High in Taurine.

In "Comparative Animal Biochemistry", By Klaus Urich, pg 423. It is
noted that many insect larvae are high in Taurine.

Don't forget the always delicious chicken and turkey hearts that are
high in Taurine, readily available and easy to feed!

My ferrets get the equivalent of one to two chicken hearts per day.
Sometimes this means I have to cut up the rather large turkey hearts
to do so. And one to a few times a week I dole out Super worms.

Cheers,
Kim
