First of all, I certainly wouldn't consider a 3 y.o. ferret to be
elderly. Secondly, the incidence of distemper in ferrets is not a
logical way to make a decision on whether to vaccinate. If yours get
it, they get it. If they don't, they don't. The experience in the
rest of the population has no bearing on it.

Instead, you have to look at risk and exposure factors in your own
particular situation. And, you have to remember that distemper is
airborne. It does not require direct contact.
