Subject: [ferrethealth] Lupron dosage, sources and storage
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I know Lupron has been discussed to death, but I was unable to find
the answer to my questions in the archives so I thought I'd ask you
guys. Last month I had lupron injections for my three adrenal girls
and noticed that the dosage my vet was using was 100 mcg. I asked
him about this as I remember using a higher dose in the past. He
said this was the dosage that most research is based on. He uses the
depot, not the monthly one. I checked back to see what we had used
in the past and found that the dosage we used that showed significant
improvement with was 387mcg. When I told him this, he mentioned that
the price would be significantly more. I did some research and found
the pricing info at Professional Art Pharmacy gave it to him. He
said it was significantly less expensive than where he has ordered
from in the past. I asked him to order the 2 mg depot to split
between my girls. Unfortunately, one of my oldest Sarah who was 9
passed away last week. So we had 2 mg to split betwen my two girls.
I thought we could do 500 mcg each and save the rest until next time,
but he told me that it could not be stored. Has anyone successfully
frozen a portion to use later?

Is treating them with 1 mg each too much on an ongoing basis? I'm
also curious about using 500 mcg each in my boys as preventative in
the future if we cannot store it. I hate to waste lupron! Does
anyone have any other suggestions on sources to purchase from in
smaller, but still moderately priced quantities? When I was
researching this topic I see that there is a wide range of dosage
levels; a lot of times it isn't mentioned whether the dosage refers
to the depot or monthly. If you could take a minute and let me know
what is working for you; I would appreciate that too. Thanks for
your time; Jessie, April and I sincerely appreciate it!

Lucie
