Hmmmmm.... I live in Canada, not exactly a third world country and
vets here do still buy the human lupron and yes it is very expensive.
I would have to respectfully disagree with you when you say that the
lower doses are pretty much useless. We have had good results with
the one-month depot, at the 100 mcg dose.
I guess I tend to be more conservative when it comes to medications
and prefer to give the least amount of drug that will prove to be
effective. I suppose the other option is to start high and come down,
much as we do with pred. My vet also takes a more conservative
approach when it comes to medications.
I do believe that it does depend on a number of factors, for example,
the individual ferret, stage and extent of disease, prostatic issues,
whether or not melatonin is being used at the same time, how
aggressive you want to be, and so on. I don't think Lupron is a one-
size fits all type of treatment and I don't think you were implying
that. However, some people might interpret what you said to mean that
a 1 mg, 4-month depot is the only dose that works, which would be
misleading.
