Subject: [ferrethealth] Sneeze Fits and Flattening
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My Henry is about 2 years old now and about a month ago he was squished under a lightweight couch. He was rushed to the emergency pet clinic, put on oxygen, had xrays and bloodwork and he was absolutely fine. He was bruised and tender but he kept up his drinking and attempts at pooping. He stopped eating for a while so we got him to eat the kitten food we have for our cats, Nutro Max Cat and I've compared the labels and they're nearly identical. I consulted my vet again when he started having sneeze fits, long ones that seem draining to me even. If I'd sneezed like Henry I'd of passed out. He runs around and plays with our other ferret Harlow like nothing ever happened but he does lay down flat on the ground with his head on his hands, a behavior I never noted before this. He seems almost depressed. I'm wondering if these are symptoms of something else or if they could be relating to his earlier trauma. I don't think it's a flu bug, he doesn't have physical signs like phlegm
around his nose. His litter hasn't changed and his cage is cleaned daily. My vet told me that sick ferrets are finicky about what they eat and that's why it's so difficult to get him off the cat food, could it be the same with sneezing? That he hasn't been irritated by something but because of his accident his respiratory system is more sensitive? He's getting full doses of Nutro-Vite and we're giving him lots of treats to perk him up and put more weight on. He won't touch Duck Soup but we put the powder in with the cat food also mixed with the ferret kibble. I'm so confused, he seems fine and then he goes and hides somewhere and goes to sleep. Is this how adult ferrets differ from kits?
