You misunderstood. When Lupron was first being used for ferrets,
after it was found that Lysodren wasn't working, all you could buy
was an entire human adult dose. There were NO pharmacies that fixed
ferret-sized doses. A single adult dose was many hundreds of dollars
and already mixed. It had to be stored in liquid nitrogen rather
than throwing the excess away. The only liquid nitrogen storage
facilities were usually found in human hospitals. There were a few
vets, I believe, who actually invested in liquid nitrogen containers
to store it. It was very difficult. I was only sharing a mutual
experience that Lucie and I shared many years ago.

with the one-month depot, at the 100 mcg dose.

You may disagree all you want, and that may be your experience. What
I said was that MY experience is that the smaller monthly doses are
useless, and my vet has also come to that same conclusion. I live in
Florida, you live in Canada. We have often discussed on this list
how different areas have different experiences with adrenal surgery
vs lupron vs melatonin implants. It seems that is the case here.

and prefer to give the least amount of drug that will prove to be
effective.

That is a very good thing to do. However, you are wasting your time
and prolonging the problems when giving small doses when you KNOW
they are not effective, which is MY experience in Florida.

medications.

I would hope any reputable vet would.

AGAIN, I stated that it was MY experience. And, in case you don't
know, Lucie, who asked the original question, also lives in Florida,
even further south than I.

Am I more clear now? I believe that nearly everything posted here is
based on our personal experience. Yours happens to be different from
mine.
